Answer: Macbeth thanked the first spirit for its warning because it confirmed his suspicion about Macduff. Macbeth thinks he can eliminate Macduff and avoid his downfall. It also shows he has become dependent on the witches. Macbeth should have changed his path after the warning. But he continued to do evil, which led to his doom.
